The Brief
When it comes to renovating, often it is best to start with what you know, perhaps staying in the local neighbourhood, keeping what you love about your house and changing only what is not working for your family anymore. Nick says he loves the peace and quiet of the upper north shore, adding that he has lived in the area for 20 years. Their decision to add a first floor instead of moving to a larger home was both practical and pragmatic. “We wanted to have at least 100 sqm of extra space and it was especially important for the extension to perfectly match the existing house and not look like an extension.”
The Result
The first-floor addition included three new bedrooms (all with built-in robes), living space, bathroom, storeroom and office, which has future proofed the family home and allows it to cater for their young children as they grow. Cape Cod re-tiled the entire existing ground floor roof tiles and added a skylight over the new staircase. All the rooms also had additional internal sound insulation installed.
Client Comments
“The council were rigid in their requirements with several challenges, but the team at Cape Cod were able to successfully and rapidly get council DA approval with a design we were happy with. The extension flows seamlessly with the rest of the house, and the main lounge room has such great lighting. We’re very happy with the overall renovation and end result.”
