Project Renovation Brief
Sometimes a renovation is not just about gaining extra bedrooms. It’s about reconfiguring your space to suit the way your family lives. This was the case for Sarah and Charles with their new first-floor addition in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. The main focus of the build was to create a parents’ retreat, says Sarah, as well as a cosmetic update to the rest of the house.
The Results
Sarah says she loves everything about their renovated home, but perhaps her favourite spot is being in the kitchen and looking out to the backyard and pool. Other favourite areas include the new parents’ retreat and the butler’s pantry, which were very high on their wishlist, but she wasn’t sure that it could be included in the build. Cape Cod made it work within the building envelope, after another builder said it couldn’t be done. Same with a new ensuite on the ground floor. Sarah also loves the sense of privacy that the renovation has given to all members of the family.
Client Comments
‘None of the bedrooms have common walls to any of the other bedrooms or with anything else, which is really valuable. It means we have very private and quiet areas and the layout works really well for us. The new bedroom is really, really big and luxurious and just what we wanted. Plus, having all of the four bedrooms ensuited now as well was a big improvement to the way that we use the house.’
