Project Renovation Brief
There’s no doubt that families can evolve over the years, and that can mean a change in the way (and where) we live. This was the case for Jeff and Marilyn, who bought a house on Sydney’s northern beaches with the intention of renovating in the future. Then Marilyn’s sister Christine bought into the property and came to live with them. Their plans changed. The couple turned to Cape Cod Australia for a solution that would allow Christine her own space, while making sure the first-floor addition for Marilyn and Jeff was in keeping with the local environment and streetscape.
The Results
Cape Cod Australia designed a first-floor addition that gave their home two separate, but complementary zones, with Jeff and Marilyn’s space upstairs and Christine’s downstairs. Christine now has a refurbished version of Jeff and Marilyn’s former bedroom, which was essentially recreated in the new area upstairs. The first-floor addition also includes a large living area, sunroom and bar sink, along with a master suite that includes a walk-in robe and ensuite.
Client Comments
‘It fits in with the environment. It’s better than we thought it would be. We didn’t really know what it would be like when we moved up, but it’s just lovely. We feel like we are sitting in the trees. The birds come to the window and tell
us if they want feeding.’
